replaced with BR tags making them very hard to read?

Via the mailing list: No (I think).

It happens with github notifications and seems to apply to those
posts that are not done in the github web interface, but come in
via email.

It only seemed to start a few weeks ago. I don't know what changed. Is it a
GitHub bug or my gmail client or other people's email clients that are at
fault?

I assume it's a github change, now forwarding the html part of mails
instead of the rendered text.

It's not gmail, I'm getting that too via gmx.de using Thunderbird.

I can't find a setting to change anything regarding email formatting
in the profile settings on github.
