Ken said: Last week, we had a discussion about Flir. I spoke with the head
of
marketing at NVTi, the maker of my unit to see if they wanted to comment.
They said they would, and perhaps they shall.
Just to weigh in on this one last time, because I started the thread:
a. It's nice to see this affirms everything I said, including the fact that
a single use of the camera may "justify" it's purchase.
b. My primary purpose in purchasing the FLIR (Mariner model, NOT a unit
from NVTi) was to avoid crap pots and debris while cruising at night. As
another user confirmed, the camera does not provide adequate visibility in
time to avoid small objects, unless you are crawling through the water at a
few knots. Therefore the I feel the primary application for which I
purchased the camera has failed to meet my expectations
c. It is USELESS in fog (period!). At the booth, and I'm sure the
manufacture will argue this point, I was told it works well in fog. It does
not work well (or at all) in any of the fog conditions I experience, none of
which I would call "thick" fog.
Having said all this, I do like it, and it won't be on Ebay anytime soon :)
Just my humble opinion, with nothing to sell by providing it and nothing to
loose by saying it (unless I want a big discount on this kind of thing in
the future!)
