If boat is over 20 meters requires an "SB" license, not "SA" as the
vessel is not a "voluntary" radio equipped vessel; which means "compulsory".
Ship's license are now $160 for ten years.
Operator license RP and MP are now $60. MP renew every 5 years.
Installation of VHF or Radar to be conducted by or under supervision of
Ships Licensee, if not a Licensed Operator (80.177), Licensed Operator
required on Compulsory Ship (SB).
Bridge to Bridge Act, applies to vessels over 20 meters, then becomes a
Compulsory Equipped vessel, subject to watch, log and inspection
requirements.Subpart U (80.1001-1023), also 80.59 and 80.331. Special
Regulations for over 20 meters on the Great Lakes (Subpart T).
Change of Address in FRN does NOT change address in other licenses
associated with FRN.
Digitizing of FCC data is changing the way in which the FCC can identify
errors in applications and licenses. Assume that eventually they will be
able to identify and cross check the data from all your licenses.
Whether there would be fines associated with such errors is hard to know
at this time. But, it would be a good idea to take care with filling-in
the blanks.
FCC has been conducting blanket audits of Wireless Licenses; eventually
they may get around to Ships. Failure to reply to the audit results in
the license being canceled. Falsifying data supplied to the FCC is a
serious matter.
FCC Ships Station Licenses are required to be canceled when selling the
boat to which it is associated with. 47USC309, see the note at bottom of
FCC license.
Application for new licenses, renewals, updates and replying to an audit
can all be done online. FCC stuff at the FCC website or EPIRB
registrations and updates at SarSat. You will need an FRN with password
to go online with the FCC. Website access makes all of this license
stuff real easy to take care of.
Note: The difference between references to USC and CFR is that the USC
references are to US Code which is mainly static, whereas the CFR
material is changing frequently. Notice the 47USC309 reference above,
that it is not to the CFRs: Title 47 USC 309, or Title 47, US Code
Section 309.
80.??? refers to Title 47 Part 80 of the the CFRs: the FCC regulations
for the Maritime Wireless Service.
