We installed a new Furuno NavNet VX2 a little over two years ago, and it is C-Map based. I don't know if Furuno has subsequently dropped the C-Map option but we had the choice of Navionics or C-Map. Since our older plotter (Echotec 310) is C-MapNT we elected to stay with C-Map in the Furuno. We have been very impressed with C-Map and have seen no reason to switch. I much prefer vector charts to raster charts, although there are plotters out there now that can accommodate both. And as I do not want my boat's navigation to be dependent on a computer operating system created by the Microsoft Kids, we have no interest in laptop-based navigation. We are delighted with our NavNet system and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone contemplating the acquisition of a new radar/plotter unit. ______________________________ C. I have installed the NavNet3 system and at this time my crusing grounds are the Central US rivers. Furuno does not have charts for any of these rivers and does not have a date of when they might be available. They told me they are concentrating on the coastal regions now. I am not sure why they can't supply as they are the main supplier of commercial systems/charts for the tow boats. I have purchased the river charts for my Iphone at $4.99 (Navionics) and am really impressed with the detail. Have received one update already with changes I have noticed. Not sure why Furuno has decided to not use Navionics in the NN3 system. The rest of the system, radar, fishfinder/depth and other functions are great so far. The Army Corps of Engineers maintains current S57 ENC charts at their website for all major US inland waterways.
