From Jamie Meyers:

1/10 - Madison, I-95 around exit 60 or so: adult GOLDEN EAGLE soaring over the highway.
Old Lyme, Black Hall River off CT 156 - 3 NORTHERN PINTAILS, two drakes and 1 hen, mixed in with common dabblers just after first light this morning.  They were gone when I passed back that way around 7:45 or so.
Westbrook, Salt Meadow NWR - 2 FOX SPARROWS and 2 HERMIT THRUSHES in the brush near the main building.  Also flyover PINE SISKINS.
East Haven, Proto Ave/Ora Ave - 3 EASTERN (presumed) MEADOWLARKS on the western downslope of the grassy hill where Steve Broker previously reported them.

I tried for the Marsh Wren(s) at that location and Hank Golet's phoebe without success.  I also tried for Nick's scoters in Milford and found the massive scaup flock but no scoters.  In light of recent discussions, I noticed a much better mix of birds in the Sound today than last weekend.  It seemed absurd to me that I didn't add Common Loon to my year list until my third trip to the coast.  I tried for Snow Buntings and Purple Sandpiper at Hammonasset but failed in that quest as well.  I was there at very high tide and there wasn't much of a jetty, though there was a Ruddy Turnstone on it.

I have met my goal for January.  Wake me up when the woodcocks start peenting!!!
