I have sailed about 150,000 bluewater miles over a peroid of 55+ years. A
fair amount of this was ocean racing, including transpacs and Mexico races,
but cruises have included to Europe and back from S. Calif, several trips to
N. Calif Coast, and 3 trips to Alaska/ most of the inland waterways of Alaska,
90% of the salt water coast line Icy straights Alaska to Maine, Canadian
Boarder--3 Panama Canal crossings, 2 Atlantic Crossings, extensive sailing in
Caribbeen. Last Sail boat: Cal Cruising 46-Speed under power usual 6.5 knots,
at 1400 RPM, 8 knots at 1800 RPM,
Range at 6 knots in excess of 1500 miles.
Reason for switching: Age, health--Coronary disease, back injuries, wanted
shoal draft, bridge clearance and ability to do rivers, I C W etc. Wife:
wanted Queen size walk around bed, no external teak to varnish!
"Trawler" Symbol 42, sundeck motor yacht. Draft 3'6", Bridge clearance
17'6", Engines Cat 3208, NA 210 HP. Usual cruising speed 8 knots at 4
gallon/ hour. Top speed about 10 knots. Range at 8 knots about 800 miles, at
6.5 knots about 1200 miles. Sure is easy to make up that bed--air conditioned
flying bridge is wonderful in hot weather in FL., when there is no breeze.
