8hp Nissan 2 stroke, runs for about 10 seconds (smoothly) and then dies. Starts right back up with full choke, runs 10 seconds, dies.
I took the carb out and cleaned up EVERYTHING (cleaned all the gunked up holes, float, etc.). Air sprayed everything clean. Reinstalled.
Runs for about 10 seconds (smoothly) and then dies. Starts right back up with full choke, runs 10 seconds, dies.
I can force it to run for an additional 20-30 seconds by "goosing" the throttle off and on, but it only runs at high RPM (lots of gas from the "goosing") and then always eventually dies. No amount of choke on-off-partial or warm up is helping.
What am I missing? This MUST be a very common symptom - Any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Ray.

How old is your fuel? We get the same symptoms when we try to use last
year's fuel, even if we put conditioner in it before we stow it.

Hi Rich,
Sounds like the float may be bent slightly on the lean side andnot allowing
enough fuel into the carb to keep up with the engine.

Hi Rich,
Sounds like the tank vent may be blocked. Does this engine have a remote
tank? If so, the primer bulb would collapse due to vacum.

I once owned a 7.5 hp sears special.. had the same
problem. I tried about everythign under the sun to get
it to run. I aoubt gave up and decided to strip it
down once, just for fun and found the head gasket had
a small cut out of it. Took the gasket into the repair
place, spoke a bit with the mechanic, who told me the
gasket would in fact cause the symptoms I was
experiencing. It sounded a bit strange but I bought
the gasket, replaced it put it togheter and she ran
like a dream.
