Observers:
Visitors:
Several visitors today though most were just looking to see what the hawk
watch was about and didn't stay long.
Weather:
Light SW winds with high overcast most of the day with a bit of sunshine in
the last couple of hours. Temp 14C to start getting to a high of 25C.
Raptor Observations:
Not much moving yet but once the air dried out and the fog lifted there
were a few Am Kestrels that came through and a lone Merlin. There were
several sightings of Bald Eagle but they were all likely local with adults
and HY birds flying up and down the cliff edge on the updraft created by
the winds.
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of passerines around today including Gray Catbirds, Belted Kingfisher,
DC Cormorant, Cedar Waxwings, WB Nuthatch, Eastern Towhee, Downy, Hairy and
Red-bellied Woodpeckers, N. Flickers, Red-eyed and Warbling Vireos, Barn
and Tree Swallows, Am Goldfinch, Am Crows, Blue Jays, and a pile of RT
Hummingbirds. Warblers reported to me included Am Redstart, Black-throated
Blue, Cape May and possibly a Canada.
Predictions:
The whole remainder of the week through to Thursday is forecast to be VERY
hot and humid with constant southerly winds so any flight will likely be
similar to today if any birds even bother to move. The first chance for
northerly winds appears to be next Friday although it's still going to be
too hot.
