It was good to meet Alain who showed an interest in the hawk watch and the birds around the tower. Weather: It was overcast all day, with the temperature around 10c. The wind remained generally from the west, moderate at first then reducing to light. Visibility was good all day Raptor Observations: Quiet day today with only Turkey Vultures (556) passing in any numbers, almost all to the north. Sharp-shinned Hawks (18) and American Kestrels appeared in small numbers. Northern Harrier (6) numbers were also reduced. One of the larger Turkey Vulture kettles was accompanied by Broad-winged Hawks (4). Non-raptor Observations: A good variety of ducks again with nine species spread all over the marsh. We have had another minor fall of warblers today with Yellow-rumped Warbler dominating, seemingly in every bush. It was nice to see a particularly smart fall Northern Parula and two Wilson's Warblers. We also saw a single Ruby-throated Hummingbird close to the feeders. Common Loon (4) made their first appearance this fall, taking a short cut north west over the marsh. Will we get more Turkey Vultures than today?
