Call for Artists: Artist Training Program and Public Art for McKinley Hill!
Are you an artist, or do you know one eager to transform community spaces with creative vision? We are thrilled to invite artists to participate in a public art training program and the opportunity to contribute to the McKinley Hill neighborhood through the installation of temporary and permanent public art!
Deadline to Apply: July 7th, at 11:59pm
Budget: $300 participation-based stipend, and opportunity to compete for several $2,500 temporary public art projects and one $20,000 permanent public art project
What We Offer:
- Public Art Training Program: Gain skills and insights through a comprehensive training program designed to support your artistic development. Learn how to apply for public art calls, design a proposal and complete a commission. We will meet in person on Saturdays July 20th, 27th and August 10th.
- Collaborative Environment: Work alongside fellow artists and community members in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere. Meet local fabricators and learn from established public artists.
- Commissions: Participants in the cohort are eligible to submit proposals for temporary and permanent public art installations ranging from $2,500 - $20,000.
- Artist Stipend: $300 participation-based stipend
Artist Eligibility:
- Applicants must live in Pierce or King County, WA
- Applicants must be 18 years or older
- Applicants must apply as an individual
- Applicants must be a practicing visual artist, in any medium, producing artwork on a regular basis
- Applicants must be able to participate in mandatory training sessions July 20th, July 27th and August 10th if selected
- Applicants cannot be an employee, board member, council member, or commissioner of Metro Parks or the City
Selection Criteria:
- Artistic quality as exhibited in past work
- Interested in creating public art and community engagement
- Interested in developing their skills through a structured training program.
- Ability to contribute to the diversity of the cohort
- Priority will be given to artists who have not been the lead on a major public art commission (over $25,000)
- Priority will be given to artists with a tie to Tacoma and the McKinley community, whether geographic, cultural, or historical
