Locating Digital Antenna outside antenna

I have just bought a Digital Antenna cell phone relay and wonder how to
mount the outside antenna

I have a new Krogen Whaleback and would like some experienced
recommendation

For those unfamiliar with boat, take a look at
http://makeashorterlink.com/?H2B2428DA

There is a second deck pilothouse and a mast with radar, TV antenna of
standoff platforms and met package on the top. There is a small
spreader. On either side of the pilothouse at rear are two tall antennas
for VHF and SSB.  There is a ladder handrail that goes to the top of the
pilothouse that sticks up about 2 feet.

The antenna is 24" long and comes with a SS bracket that let one bolt it
to a vertical surface or u bolt it to a rail or the spreader.

As I see it my choices are:

  1. mount to side of mast but the top will be below the met package

on the top of the mast. Bracket will hold antenna just 1 inch off the
mast

  1. U bolt it to the spreader

  2. Attach to the Ladder handrail - this will be in the way using

the ladder.

  1. Mount to side name board frame

  2. ?????

I wonder about effective transmission mounted so close to the mast in
option 1.  I guess I could made a larger bracket that will hold the
antenna  further from the mast.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I take it by "relay" you mean one of the wireless repeaters, not the
hard wired amplifier. A few questions here first : 1) which model did
you buy? there are three flavors and antenna placement varies by each.
2) where is the inside antenna going to be mounted? 3) who did you buy
it from? It should have come with very specific antenna placement
instructions. Follow those guidelines first and foremost.

Not knowing the answer to the above, the most important element in
installing one of these is to have the internal and external antennas
as far apart as you can get them. The more intervening "stuff"
(bulkheads, metal plates, air) between the two antennas the better.
This is a terrific product if installed correctly, but almost useless
if not.
By the way Digital is located just up the road from you in Plantation.
They are nice folks.
My company is their master wholesale distributor for the land based
market.
