Almost all the early migrants have returned. There was a Pied-billed Grebe at Little Cat on the 19th and a Double-crested Cormorant in the Cataraqui River on the 21st. N. Shovelers were at the Kaiser X-Rd in Prince Edward County last Friday and there was another at the sewage lagoons on Wednesday. Four Wood Ducks were at QUBS on the 20th and another at Elginburg on the 25th. The large number of Common Goldeneye off the south shore of Amherst Island had been largely replaced by Bufflehead on Wednesday. Eight White-winged Scoters were off PEPt a week ago, there were 5 Ring-necked Ducks near Inverary on Tuesday and 4 Canvasbacks were off Wolfe Island on Wednesday.

There was a large influx of Killdeer last Friday with 15 being reported from Kingston to PEPt. Great Blue Herons were at Elginburg on Monday and in the city on Tuesday. Turkey Vultures have been widespread; singletons from Bedford Mills, Jones Falls, Joyceville and Newburgh this week and 5 on the K&P Trail on Wednesday.

There has been a significant increase in the number of N. Harriers on Amherst; 18 were tallied on Wednesday along with an equal number of Short-eared Owls. There were still at least 2 Rough-legged Hawks on Amherst but no Snowy Owls were reported this week. A N. Goshawk was seen at Jones Falls last Friday and a Red-shouldered Hawk at Charleston Lake on Saturday.

Eastern Bluebirds have come back (we had none overwinter this year); at PEPt and Sydenham on the 19th, another at Battersea on the 20th and a pair on the Sydenham Road on the 24th. Eastern Meadowlarks were at Adolphustown on the 19th, Elginburg on the 22nd and on Amherst on the 24th. The first Tree Swallow was seen on the 19th and there was a flock of 10 north of Millhaven on Wednesday. An Eastern Phoebe was at Bedford Mills yesterday. The second Carolina Wren of the season has started to sing in downtown Kingston.

Two Brown Creepers were at Battersea on Saturday and were replaced by a pair of Purple Finches on Sunday. Two Pine Siskins made a short stopover at a Camden East feeder on Tuesday.

The last(?) N. Shrike was at PEPt on Friday and the first returning Loggerhead Shrike was northeast of Newburgh yesterday.

Cheers,

Peter Good
