Questions and Answers about hypnosis
Season’s Greetings, Newsletter Friends,
This newsletter will answer some of the many interesting questions I
receive, plus my easy, delicious, no bake “Rum Balls Dessert Recipe”.
Can children benefit from hypnosis? Absolutely. Children have a fantastic
imagination which allows them to become powerfully involved with the
hypnotic suggestions/instructions/directions. Uses can include eliminating
needless fears such as fear of needles, bed-wetting, pain control, boosting
self-esteem and confidence, improving concentration, overcoming behavioural
problems at home and at school and much more. Some hypnotherapists
specialize in child hypnosis. Entire books have been written about using
hypnosis with children. I created a hypnosis recording called Stop Thumb
Sucking which parents have praised.
Past Life Regression with Hypnosis: This is a therapeutic technique of
some hypnotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. You do not have to
believe in past life regression to make it useful. For example, sometimes
when a cure cannot be found, past life regression hypnosis may be an
option. One patient had persistent headaches that could not be cured, which
may have one of a couple hundred causes. He was hypnotized, regressed to a
past life, thought he was living in the middle ages and that a spear
impaled his head as he fell into the water filled castle moat. The
physician said to him: “The spear is gone. That was another body, you are
ok now. You have a new body. You are safe.” Surprisingly, the headache
disappeared. That which you believe to be true is true for you.
Do we create our own reality or karma? Well, for example, are you more of
a positive or negative thinker? Do you see your life as a glass half full
or half empty. We tend to draw towards us what we think the most about, and
sometimes what we fear the most. Maybe you need to change the programming
of your subconscious mind. It is similar to your personal computer in that
it can only put out what is fed into it. When events do not go my way, I
sometimes say to myself: “Great, what is good about this? How can that
event make my life change for the better?” This is the old idea of turning
lemons into lemonade. Whatever you learned can be reprogrammed. Hypnosis is
one of the fastest and most successful ways to reprogram our mind.
How lucky are we in North America? Apparently 43% of the world does not
have running water; 25% of the world does not have adequate sanitation; 13%
do not have electricity and 11% have no improved water supply. According to
UNICEF and The World Health Organisation; “1 in 3 people globally do not
have access to safe drinking water”.
Why do shy people become confident on a hypnotist entertainer’s stage
show? I presented hypnosis shows for about 25 years and hypnotised
thousands of people. Yes, shy, introverted people can become exciting,
extroverted entertainers singing, dancing, be funny in their comments and
may even be stronger if given a strength test. The hypnotist focuses their
mind upon his voice and stimulates their imagination such that they want to
follow his instructions. Hypnotized people let their conscious, critical
mind “go to sleep” or step aside and let their subconscious mind take over.
Limiting beliefs are dissolved by new installed supreme confidence. Because
the subconscious mind is not concerned with differentiating reality and
fantasy, everything the hypnotist says seems real. By words, possibly
gestures, the hypnotist creates a new belief system or reality for the
client. Yet, there is still a small part of the critical mind that stays
alert to ignore the instruction, refuse the instruction or come out of the
hypnosis state for protection against following an immoral or illegal
hypnotic instruction.
Can people lie while hypnotized? That depends upon their depth of
hypnosis and the specific instructions given. However, generally people who
are hypnotized are better liars, fiction and fantasy creators while
hypnotized. This is due to their relaxation, focus of concentration,
enhanced imagination and greater access to the vast memories of their
mental storehouse of past learnings and life experiences. Lie detection:
The hypnotist can program a hypnotic instruction such that any time they
fail to tell the truth, their right index finger will jump up.
Virtual Reality Headsets and Hypnosis help to distract patients during
surgery: In a study by physicians and colleagues from Brussels University
Hospital in Belgium, research shows the use of virtual reality glasses or
medical hypnosis can alleviate pain, anxiety and reduce the need for
medications in patients during medical procedures. The VR glasses provide
visual and verbal distraction with a cartoon movie and a calming voice.
Hypnotised patients would imagine themselves in another place. Study
participants were 6-65 years of age. The conclusion was that either VR
glasses or medical hypnosis alone significantly reduced pain and anxiety in
patients undergoing painful medical procedures.
Dr. Louann Brizendine, a neuropsychiatrist says: “There is no such thing
as a unisex brain.” Sex differences are innate. Women are far better
reading nonverbal cues and better remembering physical appearances of
others. “For guys, foreplay is everything that happens three minutes before
intercourse. For women, it is everything that happens 24 hours beforehand.”
Dr. Brizendine is the author of a book, titled The Female Brain. The
various different hormones produced in the male and female body produce the
unique male and female variations in appearance, behavior, thinking and
feeling that make our lives more interesting.
Vaping: In a research study, 82% of people who vaped did not quit smoking
after a year. Among those who did quit cigarettes, 80% continued vaping.
“Mayo Clinic doesn't recommend use of e-cigarettes as a way to quit smoking
… In youth and adult non-smokers, e-cigarette use also poses the risk of a
nicotine addiction.” Mayo Clinic. Vaping is designed to keep the person
more addicted.
My Favorite No Bake 10 Rum Balls Dessert Recipe: Soak 10 pitted dates in
hot water for 10 minutes. Use a food processor, mash, or blend 1/2 cup of
chopped nuts (I use hazelnut, pecan or walnut); ¾ cup almond flour; the
drained dates; 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional); 1 tbsp nut milk (I use
almond); 3-5 tbsp rum (to your taste); 1/3 cup cocoa or carob powder. Some
add sugar, but I do not. Mix well until everything is moist enough to form
into balls. Sprinkle coconut flakes or Rice Krispies to coat the outside of
the rum balls. Place rum balls on parchment paper or a non-stick pan. Chill
in the freezer. Enjoy!
