Inverter Installation

Before installing an inverter consider the following:
What's it going to do for you? Coffemaker?? microwave? Then you can determine
what size is required. and where to wire the outputs...Mine is wired to a
pair of outlets in my galley, no where else because I don't use it anywhere but
there.

Consider a combined inverter/charger. Unless you only need a small charger a
combined unit is more economical.
Available regularly refurburshised, used, new at discount on e-bay boat parts.

Inverters and chargers come with pretty good instructions. You can also
download details from a Xantrex website online maybe others. Check them out before
deciding if you can do the wiring yourself. There are only three wires in (AC
plus, neutral and ground) and about as many out. (two heavy cables for DC).

Wiring is laborous but most of the work is buying the wire needed, running it
from power to unit, from unit to load. Even if you mount the units, add an
electrical recptacle or two ,run the wires and than have an "expert" make the
final wire connections, you'll save a lot of installation $. If your electrical
panel has available circuit breakers as source power connections are easy, but
if you have to add a panel it gets more involved. Just turn off all ac before
you fuss with the electric panel.
