Peter, Brent and all,
In the swimming pool trade there are valves which are "T" shaped rather than
"Y" shaped, but they accomplish the same thing.  They are heavily constructed
out of PVC and are available with permanently lubed seals and o-rings.  The
most common are 1-1/2" inside and 2" outside although larger sizes are
available.  And as you might guess, they are half the price of the "marine"
valves.
