Weather:
Northeast wind 4-12 mph, Temp mid-20s C, Sun obscured by thin clouds then
thicker clouds. The sun was bright anyway and obscured birds near it and
gave increased temperature as day progressed.
The Kestrel Weather Instrument had a broken battery contact. It has been
fixed for now.

Raptor Observations:
Birds were few and far between. Opening day was much better with good
variety. This was a typical early day in September.

Non-raptor Observations:
Nothing special. Few songbirds. Will complete eBird and this later.

Predictions:
25°C, Pleasant and warmer with partial sunshine, Winds from the West 17
km/h, (8-12mph) Gusts: 26 km/h (15mph).

I-94 east bound
¥ If traveling from the west on I-94 use the right lane to take exit 213B
for I-96 toward Lansing/Bridge to Canada. Keep right at the fork, follow
signs for I-96 East/Canada and merge onto I-96 East (Jefferies Freeway).
Take Exit 192B for Ambassador Bridge.

I-94 west bound
¥ If traveling from the east on I-94 use the right lane to take Exit 213B
for I-96 toward Lansing/Bridge to Canada. Keep left at the fork, follow
signs for I-96 East and merge onto I-96 East (Jefferies Freeway). Take Exit
192B for Ambassador Bridge.

I-75 north bound
¥ If traveling on I-75 from the south be in the right lane and take Exit
47B toward Bridge to Canada.

I-75 south bound
¥ If traveling on I-75 from the north be in the right lane and take Exit
47B toward Bridge to Canada.

All USA visitors:
¥ Pay toll and continue to cross the Ambassador Bridge to Canadian Customs.
Proceed onto Huron-Church Road and continue just under and past E. C. Row
Expressway. Stay in the right lane toward Herb Gray Parkway.
¥ Take the right ramp and merge onto ON-401 East. Continue about 3 miles to
Exit 10 on right onto ON-3. In about 100 meters you enter a roundabout
(YIELD). Take the first Exit on the right toward Howard Ave
Diversion/County Rd 9. Continue to follow County Rd 9 for about 12 miles.
Turn right onto County Road 20. Travel a bit to County Road 50 at Malden
Centre. Gas station-Resturant on corner. TURN LEFT (south) onto CR 50.
Continue a bit and after the lefthand curve, on the right is the
Conservation Area. Pay toll and proceed to the tower parking.

Canadian visitors:
If traveling from Windsor
¥ The best way is Howard Ave Diversion/County Rd 9 by way of Herb Gray
Parkway. Continue to follow County Rd 9 for about 12 miles. Turn right onto
County Road 20. Travel a bit to County Road 50 at Malden Centre. Gas
station-Resturant on corner. TURN LEFT (south) onto CR 50. Continue a bit
and after the lefthand curve, on the right is the Conservation Area. Pay
toll and proceed to the tower parking.

If west bound from Leamington, Kingsville areas
¥ Follow Essex County Road 20 to Malden Centre. Gas station-Resturant on
corner. TURN LEFT (south) onto CR 50. Continue a bit and after the lefthand
curve, on the right is the Conservation Area. Pay toll and proceed to the
tower parking.

If west bound on the 401
¥ If traveling from the east on 401 Macdonald Cartier Freeway, take the
Exit toward Howard Ave Diversion/County Road 9. Enter a roundabout (Yield).
Take the second Exit on the right toward Howard Ave Diversion/County Rd 9.
Continue to follow County Rd 9 for about 12 miles. Turn right onto County
Road 20. Travel a bit to County Road 50 at Malden Centre. Gas
station-Resturant on corner. TURN LEFT (south) onto CR 50. Continue a bit
and after the lefthand curve, on the right is the Conservation Area. Pay
toll and proceed to the tower parking.

All Visitors:
¥ Pay the daily vehicle fee of $10 at gate or at credit card reader.
(Annual pass available. See below)
Follow the signs to the Hawk Tower parking area at the south end of the
park. Park your vehicle near the north end of the parking area and walk to
the Hawk Tower.
¥ Bring with you your birding gear that might include: books, binocs,
scopes, camera, batteries, hat or bill cap, insect repellent, sunscreen,
folding chair, (drink and food during non-festival time). Dress for the
weather. It is cooler near the lake.
¥ (You may purchase an annual pass with an electronic fob at the Essex
Region Conservation Area building, 360 Fairview W Essex, ON N8M 1Y3,

Leaving Holiday Beach Conservation Area for USA and 401

¥ Continue to Howard Avenue and proceed to the roundabout.
¥ 401 visitors take the second Exit to East 401.
¥ USA and Windsor visitors take the 3rd Exit onto ON-3 heading to Windsor.
Stay in the right lane and take the ramp onto ON-401 West. This will Exit
just before the E. C. Row Expressway.
