I am a member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht club in Port Charlotte, FL. I
belonged to it when I lived there for social reasons. I never kept my boat
there. Since it belongs to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs I could use any
other member club and charges were billed to CHYC. We found this to be
wonderful when cruising in FL. You were allowed one FREE day's dockage and
only paid $6 for power.  I believe if you stayed longer it was cheaper than a
marina. All facilities were offered, and food is usually very good at the
clubs. We used this privilege whenever we could. There is a similar group for
the Gulf Coast but for us, our FL membership took care of that. We didn't
travel west of Mobile. I found we are welcome at the Mobile Yacht Club on a
cash basis and I suppose others welcome you also. Since I always had a
dog/dogs on board, and it was VERY difficult to get both me and the dog off
the boat and into the dinghy, we usually stopped at marinas. Unless
you can find an inexpensive club I would not join one just to get this
privilege. I intend to give up my membership this year since I rarely go to FL
now and Gordon will maintain his membership and I can be his guest. IT is nice
being allowed to eat at the Pensacola YC now and then.
