Added up all my receipts for the peak bird feeding months of October
1st thru March 31st. Birds at our feeders consumed 2,942 lbs of seed,
suet, corn and peanuts. About 200 lbs less than the same time period
in 2012 / 2013.

when suddenly a gorgeously marked SNOWY OWL flew along the shoreline
from west to east toward Sandy Point.

04/05/14 - Stratford, Long Beach -- adult LITTLE GULL (11:52) flew
west along the beach towards Seaside Park, Bridgeport. Also adult
Northern Gannet. At 12:30, a 2nd LITTLE GULL in water at Lordship
Seawall.
Short Beach -- 5:45 PM; Adult LITTLE GULL (winter plumage) sitting on
water with gull flock offshore, leeward side of Lordship peninsula.
Make that 2 Little Gull, if not 3.
Short Beach (Dorne Drive) -- 5:40-6:30 PM; 4 LITTLE GULLS (Stefan
Martin, others & I counted 3 basic-plumaged adults plus one
1st-winter) among about 300 Bonaparte's and 5000 Ring-billed Gulls.
They were on the water and on the beach, apparently all resting from
the relentless west wind.
Add to this the dark-headed adult LITTLE GULL seen earlier by many off
the Lordship Seawall. That makes at least five birds today.
