Allegria is slinking down the western coast
Ahoy Greg,
When I initially read your email, I was quite alarmed. With all the words
to describe you southbound status, "Slinking" would not have been my first
choice when coupled with "High Winds". It sure gave my a "Sinking Feeling".
I am glad to see that you are ok.

figure i'd post a couple of things since it looks like i'm ahead of many
southbound members...
so far (down to southport) no depth issues on the ICW Never saw less than
9' MLW anywhere, even by Carolina Beach Inlet, New River, etc... all clear!
Alligator River entrance and Snows Cut to Cape Fear River are non issues.
Beside Portsmouth, I saw a sign for $2.65 fuel at the commercial
dock/trailer park just south of New River Inlet. some marinas are still up
there, like 3.25 here at Southport, $3.40ish at Oriental Marina, etc...
Conjoick was around $2.70 from what i recall.
Good stops: Harbour Village Marina in Hampsted-Top Sail, $2 dockage, nice
docks, plenty of water in their channel and Southport Marina, $1.75 dockage.
Both have reliable free wifi.
Watch for the Onslow Bridge, at Camp Lejeune. It was out for hours
yesterday, and maybe the day before. No securite calls from the USCG,
apparently the Marine Corps and the USCG dont' have good coms! 40 or 50
boats waiting in 20kts Xwind... worth a call ahead and wait in Swansboro if
needed.
We spent one night on the hook in Cape Look Out bight, a must do stop if the
ocean isn't too rough between beaufort inlet and the bight (unless you draw
little and can sneak inside). Take the dink to the beach, lighthouse,
etc... and the back side of the Shackleford banks to see the wild horses.
Terrific anchorage, plenty of room, good holding although our 110lbs claw
started dragging early in the night when the winds reached about 40kts.
didn't come loose but a slow drag forcing me to haul anchor and move up
toward the entrance... Not much fun to relocate in 40kts at night although I
can't blame the anchor, 110lbs on a 70 footer enclosed FB isn't storm anchor
grade... Otherwise, if the weather is good, it's on my must stop at list.

The Volusia County Sheriffs were running potti-patrol just north of Daytona
Beach yesterday, stopping all cruising boats going by and giving them the
dye-in-the-head treatment. The officer was polite and proper, nothing to
complain about at all.

For those of you deskbound (as I a for two more days), I suggest you go onto
SandHopper and see what Pascal has set up.
I simply cracked up as I watched Charmer heading south (from the pilothouse
cam) while receiving his track on GoogleEarth. Makes you want to be a geek
when you grow up!
How's he do it? I'm clueless...but there is the possibility that Charmer is
on remote control and Pascal is ACTUALLY frolicking with his ladies in
Miami....
