Rufous hummingbird story?

Happy holidays all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the story behind the rufous hummingbird in
New Haven county I've been seeing reported in the eBird rare bird alerts
for quite some time.  Since I've seen no mention in the GroupMe group or on
here I'm assuming it's at a private residence and I have no interest in
chasing it (a good way of making a rare bird disappear is to have me go
look for it), just wondering how it's doing, especially considering last
night's low temps.  Feel free to reply offline.

Thanks,
Rob Ballinger - Clinton

Hello Rob -

You are correct that a Rufous Hummingbird is being hosted at a private residence.  As of this morning, the bird is still feeding actively.  The homeowner has taken steps to make sure the nectar doesn’t freeze and he is committed to keep supporting the bird as long as it keeps showing up.  Hopefully, as the extreme cold lets go over the next few days, the bird will continue to survive.
