NOTE: Between various other demands on my time and a problem with
CTBirds that prevented me from receiving any messages for two days,
this is a cumulative report for three days that leaves off some
reports that just didn't seem worth including a day or two late.

From John Marshall, Hank Golet & Rick Macsuga:
12/29/13 - Old Lyme, Griswold Point & Great Island -- 2 SNOWY OWL,
PEREGRINE FALCON, all viewed from the Smith Neck boat launch.

From  Timothy L Thompson:
12/29/13 - Preston, Amos Lake -- 8:20 AM; Two Greater White-fronted
Geese (with several hundred canada's and other wildfowl). Easy views
straight out from boat launch.
North Stonington, Ryder Rd off Rte 2 -- Immature Red-headed woodpecker
offering great views just before telephone pole #494 (left hand side
by small dip in the road).  Woodpecker crossing back and forth over
brook that travels under road.  Just past tall brown unfinished
colonial house on left (no mail box number).

From Paul Wolter:
12/29/13 - Madison, Hammonasset Beach State Park -- From Meigs Pt
Sunday morning 4 alcid sightings (at least two individuals), two
sightings identified as Razorbills. Only once on the water and then
only seconds before it dove and not relocated. Other three sightings
were flying, one belly flopped the landing, bounced and immediately
dove, and not relocated.

From John Marshall:
12/29/13 - Stonington, Stonington Point -- in the rain, possible Black
Guillemot; bill was all dark.

From Chris Elphick:
12/29/13 - ?????, Trailwoods CBC -- no shortage of Winter Wrens.
Moosup area -- 2 Common Raven, 4 Winter Wren.

From Tim and Diane Hunt:
12/29/13 - Danbury, Candlewood Lake, south end -- At least one of the
Golden Eagles (of two reported the previous day) seen.

From Hank Golet:
12/28/13 - Old Lyme,Great Island -- Snowy Owl was on Great Island
beach.  From viewing platform, in line with the Saybrook Lighthouse
building.  I left at 7:45 AM.  One SNOWY OWL was seen all day out on
the beach, west side of Great Island.  A second SNOWY OWL was seen by
Bob MacDonnell around 4:15 near the south end of the Island. Shortly
both birds flew north and landed on two separate osprey platforms up
island where they stayed until it was too dark to see them.  Joel
Hawkins had seen  a Snowy on Griswold Pt earlier and had seen that
bird fly to the area where Bob saw his, so definitely 2.  All viewing
was from the Smith Neck boat launch area.

From Tim and Diane Hunt:
12/28/13 - Danbury, south end of Candlewood Lake -- two apparent
yearling Golden Eagles flying over the half-frozen lake.  Distinctive
white markings under their wings gave them away.

From Bob Dewire:
12/28/13 - New London area CBC -- Highlights included AMERICAN BITTERN
at Groton New London Airport marshes, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER also in
marshes along edge of airport, COMMON MURRE seen from Orient Point/New
London ferry (photos), 2 SNOWY OWLS, one on a small island off
Millstone Point and one at airport visible from Bluff Point, and
BALTIMORE ORIOLE at Mason's Island.

From Frank Mantlik, with J Marshall, T Green, T Robben, D Rottino, P
Wolter, S Zagorski:
12/28/13 - New London, 7 AM New London to Orient, NY Ferry, and
return, as part of New London & Orient CBCs -- 3 RAZORBILLS, 1 alcid
sp, 7 BLACK SCOTERS.

From John and Anders Ogren:
12/28/13 - Essex, River Road just south of Great meadow Road --
Possible "light" Western intermediate adult Red-tailed Hawk.
(Alternate opinion...  "It's not a Western bird, but a borealis called
"abieticola" or "northern borealis"."
Great Meadow Road -- at least 5 FOX SPARROWS.

From Hank Golet:
12/27/13 - Old Lyme, Great Island -- SNOWY OWL, bird was in the middle
of Great Island on a tree trunk that had floated in. From the viewing
platform it would be looking a little to the right,  I saw the bird at
7:30 AM and again at 4:15 PM.

hill.

the river and the swampy area.
