Loved the Jessica Watson exchange as it brought some passion (just
normal everyday human stuff) into this new medium that we live in today.
Stultifying ones emotions can lead to health problems. Lorenzo, I didn't
know Darwin said this - brilliant because I agree 100%
I'm an Aussie just arrived on my boat in Seattle. Just love the place
and the Yanks. Fortunately haven't run into anyone yet that is a moral
crusader for anti sensibility issues. In life you will find the
braggards, ego maniacs, confrontationists (me), contrarians, etc, then
on the other hand you will find the moralistic, holier than thou, anti
confrontationists. All have a place in our life, always have, always
will. Don't like a paper's editorial stance, don't buy it. Don't like an
article, don't read it. But respect everyone's opinion and their right
to express it I say. This is surely how life just flows.
Getting switched over to 110/60 has been an fairly expensive exercise
for my boat is now working perfectly due to good advice from US friends.
I have been in touch with the US Govt to change the buoyage system to
International for us poor foreigners, but due to no response, I have
decided to pretend I'm going out of a port instead into one, and hope I
don't forget in all the confusion to provision or bunker. As we say in
Oz I won't know whose up who, or who hasn't paid.
This site has waxed and waned, and been moribund for some time. Alan
don't tighten it up too much, just let the flow happen, and maybe
suggest if some people want to have a good horn lock, going off site
together maybe a good way to bury the hatchet.
Respectfully yours,
Peter Sheppard

Noel I apologize for offending your sensibilities but being down
under I
guess your sensibilities are different than here at the top of the
world at
lat 55N. < smile>
I fail to see what Jessica's Hollywood style grab for publicity has to
do
with WW2 .
And yes I was thoroughly indoctrinated abut the sacrifices of youth
during
WW2 while I was in the Navy.
I grew up on the stories of the exploits of what my parents did under
Nazi
occupation. Did you know when the leader of the Danish occupation was
arrested and sentenced to death by firing squad he was all of nineteen
and
had been active for four years? My hat's off to those young people.
When Robin took off in Dove way back then; it was without fanfare etc.
No
marketing publicities, no hype, just cast off and go. That I respect!.
But a highly publicized stunt to get into a Guinness book of Records
as
first something or youngest something . . .hhmmmm now that is too
much
like American style hype and that I do not agree with. We have too
much of
American bragging in this world already . I'm disappointed to see you
guys
down under swallowing that kind of empty dialogue . We see too much of
that
in their Hollywood exported movies already .
Had Jessica simply departed quietly and made her announcement after the
fact
that I would applaud and respect. But not this publicity hype before
the
fact.
Its not her doing. The publicity show was her parent's doing. But the
hype
changes it from a personal effort to a publicity stunt..
I would refer you to Matthew Chapter 6 verse 5 which could equally well
be
applied to any public bragging if you still haven't understood my
meaning.
One thing my parents taught me was to act first then talk about it
later,
but only if necessary.
Regards
Arild

Is this a site about passaging or a venting site. There are plenty of
sites
which support those that need to vent, try facebook and twitter and
leave
this site for information which helps us all as we voyage to wonderful
places around the world! God Bless - Ross on 10&2

Salty Dawg started the wrong way around and crossed the Atlantic with
Medbound
2007 led by Milt Baker with a total of 3 Nordhavns.
We wintered 07/08 in Almerimar, Spain, cruised eastbound thru the Med
summer
of 2008 visiting Balaeric Island, touched on Sardinia, Sicily, Malta,
mainland
Italy, Montenegro, Croatia, rounded the Pelaponese of Greece, coasted
the
northern part of Crete and are now hopeless lost for our second winter
in
Turkey. This summer we will be the only powerboat among80 vessels on
the
Eastern Med Yacht Rally to Northern Cyprus, Syria, Lebabon, Israel,
Egypt and
back to Israel with a land tour to Jordan and then back to Turkey.
Future plans are Malaysia and Thailand via the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden
(pirate alley) either on our own bottom or as deck freight on a big ship
for
safety concerns.
Ya--we are living the dream--every day
