Job Summary
Wilberforce University is a small, Liberal Arts University with an Entrepreneurial focus, and a legacy of being the nation's first private HBCU. The Librarian is a professional position responsible for providing customer service to all patrons that enter the library. This role will work between Archives, Reference, and Circulation departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Book Processing:
Catalog and process incoming library materials, including books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials, according to established procedures.
Prepare materials for shelving, including labeling, covering, and stamping.
Process the discarding of books.
Ensure accurate and up-to-date records in the library's cataloging system.
Archives Management:
Assist in the organization, preservation, and digitization of archival materials.
Catalog and index archival collections using appropriate software and methodologies.
Assist researchers and patrons with accessing archival materials and providing reference services as needed.
Customer Service:
Provide friendly and efficient service to library patrons, including answering inquiries, assisting with circulation tasks, and directing users to appropriate resources.
Assist patrons with basic research and reference questions, referring more complex inquiries to librarians as needed.
Contribute to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive library environment for all users.
Information Literacy Instruction:
Design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction sessions and workshops for students at all levels, with a focus on first year and transfer students.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts, skills, and resources into the curriculum across disciplines.
Develop instructional materials, assignments, and learning activities that promote information literacy and critical thinking skills.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. They should be capable of working independently and as part of a team, and exhibit flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities. A commitment to providing excellent customer service to diverse populations is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for this position should possess a Master of Library Science or MLIS. Previous experience working in a library, or a related field is advantageous. Familiarity with library cataloging systems, such as OCLC and MARC, as well as archival principles, is also preferred. Evening and weekends hours required.

Job Summary
Wilberforce University is a small, Liberal Arts University with an Entrepreneurial focus, and a legacy of being the nation's first private HBCU. The Rembert E. Stokes Library at Wilberforce University is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Information Literacy Librarian who will develop, coordinate, and deliver information literacy instruction and manage electronic resources to support the academic and research needs of the university community. This dual role requires a dynamic and flexible individual with expertise in both instructional and technical aspects of librarianship.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Information Literacy:
Develop and deliver information literacy instruction sessions, workshops, and tutorials for students and faculty.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts into the curriculum.
Create and maintain online guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials.
Assess the effectiveness of information literacy programs and make improvements based on feedback and data.
Digital Services:
Manage the life cycle of electronic resources, including selection, acquisition, access, administration, and evaluation.
Troubleshoot access issues and work with vendors to resolve problems.
Maintain accurate records of electronic resources, licenses, and subscriptions.
Collaborate with the IT department to ensure seamless access to electronic resources.
