I have been following the issues with AC and various non-Garmin mapping/navigation systems that utilize AC data. I was wondering how the Garmin mapping/route planning (but not navigation software) HomePort would be handling the changes to AC. So I asked the following to Garmin via e-mail and I post their response....
Question:
"I have been reading about the new active captain data structure API. I see many competitors will not be able to support active captain for a while due to the new API. Will homeport suffer any lag in active captain data due to new API? Will I need a new version if homeport?"
Response:
"At this time we are not publicly releasing the HomePort development roadmap. We can commit to having the ActiveCaptain website updated and the community data will be available there. "
It appears they may be having internal issues as well... I sure hope they continue to support HomePort.... That is where I do ALL my route planning.. That is, I do everything on a Win 10 laptop and then download the results to an SD card which I insert in my older (4208s) chart plotters/radar.
