I forget to mention the issue of trying to run a twin on one engine. At
least some boats will not steer properly on one engine, especially in
choppy water conditions. I recall a twin engine 50' Ferreti that was
towed in because the operator could not steer a straight course when one
engine failed.

On a long passage you should take into account the possibility of losing
an engine and perhaps the autopilot as well and having to steer for
hundreds or thousands of miles.
