I recently had the same problem and discussed it with the local
Verizon tech support people. They gave me a new connectivity cable but that
didn't eliminate the problem. Their tech guy told me that 90% of cell phone
problems can be fixed by simply removing the battery for 10 seconds and
reinstalling it. It worked for me, since that's how I'm writing this this!

Also keep your EPROM up to date by visiting their stores and dial *228 to
update the list of cell towers in your area.

Very good idea Ron, but you needn't be in their store to do so, you can do it
anywhere you have a relatively strong signal.

Also good to dial *228 whenever you arrive at a new airport, enter a new state,
or make any other type of large location change.

All the way!
