05/28/14 - New London -- 100+ Common Eider off Peqout Ave near New
London Light, nice sized raft close to shore.

(male).

05/27/14 - Stratford,  Railroad Tracks -- A Least Bittern observed
hunting the edge of the drainage canal.

05/27/14 - Norwalk, Longshore Road -- Common Raven headed south
towards Manressa Island area.  Landed just south of Longshore out of
view but was very vocal for at least an hour in this location.

05/26/14 - Milford, Milford Point -- Two Black Terns were fly-bys at
about 9:20 AM. They crossed over the western end of the plover nesting
spit and turned back towards the Housatonic River. I lost sight of
them after that and they did not reappear. Also present were 7 Black
Skimmers and 7 Red Knot. One Red Knot had a plastic flag band on its
upper leg, but I could not get the color or code due to back-lighting
and distance.

05/26/14 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- 1 Little Blue Heron, 2
Brown Thrashers together behind the outdoor restroom near Willard's
Island.

05/25/14 - South Windsor, Station 43 -- heard one Least Bittern
calling on right side of marsh, seen briefly in flight. Tall boots and
lots of mosquito juice needed to venture into the marsh.

05/25/14 - Milford, Milford Point -- Red Knot on the sand spit, took
off heading west and for the marsh.  White-rumped Sandpiper, 4 Black
Skimmers.

05/25/14 - West Haven, Sandy Point -- Surprised by a late pair of
Northern Shoveler on arrival and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo flushed as I
was leaving from the small trees by the trail entrance from the
parking lot.

just in time to eat the caterpillars.

05/25/14 - Shelton, Lane Street, Shelton Open Space Area --
Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Mourning Warbler and Lincoln's Sparrow.  After
entering onto Lane Street, the entrance is about 75 yards down the
road on your right.

05/25/14 - Old Saybrook backyard -- at least 1 Blackburnian in the
yard for the last couple of days.  In the marsh in front of the house
were an adult and an im. LITTLE BLUE HERON, and at least 4 SALT-MARSH
SPARROWS.

05/25/14 - New Haven, East Rock, top of the Rock -- a couple whose
names I did not get reported a Blue Grosbeak in a tree near the
monument at the top of the rock.

05/25/14 - New Haven, East Rock Park, next to Monument -- 10:30 AM;
BLUE GROSBEAK first spring male seen with Jean and Bruce Webber, and
Mark Aronson.  A couple from Montville (sorry forgot their names)
found a PAIR of the grosbeaks and alerted us to them.  We could only
locate the male.

05/25/14 - New Haven, East Rock Park, in trees next to monument at top
of park -- around noon; male Blue Grosbeak, molting into male plumage;
blue face, rufous nape, one bright rufous wing bar, the other faint,
light belly, rufous breast, some blue spots scattered on underparts,
lower mandible silver/gray.  First discovered, we believe, this AM by
Jerry Connolly.

05/25/14 - New Haven, East Rock Park -- 1st year male Blue Grosbeak
continues at 7 PM near monument at top.  The bird was seen in thicket
and trees immediately north of the monument.

sand bars at low tide.

05/25/14 - Lyme, Hartman Park -- Cerulean Warbler.  Just before
leaving, in the parking area we got good looks at a Yellow-billed
Cuckoo after hearing others all morning.

05/25/14 - East Haven/Branford border, mouth of the Farm River -- 10
BLACK SKIMMERS roosting on a rock and 3 PURPLE SANDPIPERS feeding on
the rocks. Seen by kayak.
