Erie Lock 17

As you may know, Erie Canal Lock 17, the big one, has been broken, and
operating on a schedule only.

Just now we heard the broken gear, 7 feet tall, has been repaired, and
shipped to the Lock, where it will be installed immediately.

The repair must have been designed by a dentist, a section of 3 teeth was
sawed away and a "dental bridge" of 3 new teeth was bolted in place.

The repaired gear looks like this:

The Canal should be back to normal for 4th of july weekend.  :)
