I'll have to take your word on that till I get a chance to try them. But I've
found cheap radios to be constantly less than satisfactory in the past.
We
use clips with lanyards to cut down on the chance of dropping them in the
drink. Even though the boss is paying in most cases. :-)

Au contraire. The el cheapo Cruising Solutions
headsets are full duplex
and quite reliable. Not as classy as the eartec, but
neither float and
when you drop one in the drink, the CS units are much less
costly to
replace.
