If you tell GCF that it will be used for fuel, they will drill out the
orifice and mark the filter "for fuel only" ( at least they did for me a few
months ago). I haven't had time to install it yet - maybe a winter project?

No, you did not miss anything.  You would need to drill out the orifice that
is designed to slow down the oil flow in a bypass application.  The only
disadvantage is that it has no water separator, but that is something that
is pretty easy to work around.
