Yale’s provost has forbidden the use of university funds for international travel, and it’s not at all clear when he might authorize the use of university funds for international travel, which is a key factor for our conference to go forward. For this reason, it makes sense for us to postpone Third Middle Period China Humanities Conference (220-1600) until the summer of 2022. We’re hoping to solicit applications for the conference in December 2021 so we’ll update you in autumn 2021. We ended our last email to you saying, “we realize that this is yet another item of discouraging news at a time when our in boxes have plenty of bad news, but let's continue to focus on the main priority: staying safe and limiting the impact of the virus.” This was true in April, and unfortunately it continues to be true now.
