A question for the weather experts
Hurricane Isabel caused extensive flooding in the northern Chesapeake in
2003. The path of this storm is shown here:

Was the reason for this simply that the rotation caused southerly winds
that pushed water up the bay? If this is the case the flooding would be
minimal if the current storm stays to the east of the Chesapeake and the
winds are projected to be northerly, I think.
Am I oversimplifying this or is it a lot more complicated?

What gets blown out of the Bay comes back - sometimes with vengeance.
Especially if you are, like me, at the top of the Bay...
