Green/red buoy

Does anyone know what a buoy with a green top and red bottom means? In my
confusion I almost grounded Carol Marie in a narrow channel until the
Admiral suggested I reverse course (we had about 2-feet below the
transducer).

Sounds like a marker that marks both a primary channel and secondary
channel. The green on top is the green marker for the primary channel, and
the red marks the red buoy for the secondary channel. If there is no
secondary channel there, who the heck knows? Like somebody else said...
maybe anti-fouling paint? Lost buoy?
