From Frank Mantlik, with a variety of others:
01/31/14 - Southbury, River Rd -- MEW GULL first located on the river
at 12:20. Relocated at 12:55.
Note from Patrick Comins: mid-day seems to be the best time. The
gulls start arriving around 8 AM, but build through noon. It seem
that after 3 PM there are no gulls to be found!
Note, repeating what Patrick said yesterday: The flock
moves around quite a bit. At times the gulls have been feeding or
roosting in the fields on either side of Purchase Brook Road at
Mitchell Farm. Please do not trespass on Mitchell Farm, or get out of
cars on River Road west of intersection with Purchase Brook (signs
posted to remain in vehicle). Traffic on River Road can travel fast.
Bring a scope and some eye drops, and maybe some Tylenol; it doesn't
exactly stand out like a sore thumb.
From Keith Mueller:

1:30 PM; MEW GULL continues seen by many. Seen in the fields in the

necessary searching through 1,000 Gulls mostly Ring-billed. Also 3
ICELAND GULLS (2- 1st cycle) one very pale bird with pure white
primaries, one darker, and a 2nd cycle flying up the river that never
landed with the Gull flock. Also light morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at
Cassidy Road (over the hill from the river), also a quick look at the
very pale Redtail Hawk that Patrick found the other day.
