There is often the other side of the coin where the experienced TWL member
knows far better how to get the inexperienced out of a jam--and where they
don't want to co-operate--like the sailboat I pulled off a sand bar a few
weeks ago. I got the line to him, told him to get back to the cockpit, put
his engine out of gear, and steer the boat. He stayed at the bow and refused
to go aft, I had to pull (using a bridle with a block to allow control of my
boat.)since I was drifting toward the bar--so I had to pull. I popped him
off the sand bar, and of course his boat has the engine running full bore,
with no one to steer--I barely kept out of his way--kept the line tight and
kept him in the ICW until I finally conviced him to get aft and shut it down.
Oh yes--he had seen some outboard boats cut across this dogleg--didn't know
anything about water color, didn't have a chart, was on his way to Key West
and was from some far away place like Tennessee (appologies to those from
that fair state).
