Today at the Hill was a banner day. We could have charged admission. With winds between North and West all day the weather was perfect. It was the third day in a row of good hawk weather which usually means there won't be any birds today presumably because all the ones that were ready have all gone through yesterday. The numbers tell the rest:
1,619 Turkey Vultures (only 3 short of our record set in 2013. I'd have sat out there 'til the sun went down if I'd known that.)
2 Osprey
10 Bald Eagles
3 Northern Harriers
112 Sharpshins
11 Coopers
3 Red Shouldered
4 Broadwinged
49 Red Tails
7 Am. Kestrels
3 Merlins
1 Peregrine
1 U.A.
4 U.B
2 Common Ravens
Total 1,841
Tomorrow looks pretty good with NW winds around 15 kph. Who says we can't have 4 good days in a row? The birdies have all certainly been waiting long enough.
Watch out for Parkside Drive again. It seems to be undergoing stage 3 in the process of turning High Park into a World Class City.
Drive in the Bloor Street entrance and park in the Grenadier Restaurant parking lot (yum). Or get off the subway at High Park station (I presume it still exists ) and walk South to the Grenadier Restaurant (yum yum). I like my coffee with milk and sugar. If you don't bring me one I'll wait 'til you see a Gull and call it out as a Golden Eagle or something and make you buy me one. Watch out!
Thanks to everyone who helped today, too numerous to mention but none less than precious to spare.
