This has been a frustrating spring but there are geese around. I have had a
flock of 20,000+ at Green Valley along Cty Rd 34 10 minutes north of
Lancaster. The birds were not near the road but were further east in the
floodplain near farms. Sometimes they may be at the lagoons a little
further east. They could be seen from the road but there was a better view
from the concession just south of there at the top of the hill. Go left
(east) about 1/2 km and the birds were visible in the water. They come and
go so no guarantees.
A few thousand were seen off Westley Point 5 km east of South Lancaster on
South Service Rd.
There have occasionally been sightings of a flock at Winchester near the
lagoons at the north end of town but the birds seem to have relocated,
possibly due to hunters in nearby fields. Yesterday I had 12-15,000 along
Hwy 31 southwest of Winchester Springs. They lifted off at 8:10 and headed
east. Late in the afternoon I was returning along Cty Rd 43 east of
Winchester and spotted them just past the high school on the water in the
old quarry as well as on the adjacent lawn.
