I just returned from the IBEX show in Fort Lauderdale. One of the booths
visited was the Airmar booth. This company manufactures most of the
transducers used by the various brand names on the market.
They have an adjustable In hull transducer that should put the questions to
rest as to the best way to achieve results.

Look for the P79 In Hull transducer and marvel at this wonder.
I am not affiliated in any way with this company.

And if you don't want to go through all this. Take plaster and build a
little pool on the bottom of the boat, fill it with liquid epoxy, into
which you will place the tranducer in a vertical position and support it
there to harden. All done....

You could do the same thing with modeling clay and with a lot less mess
than plaster.
