I too am a member of both fleets and prefer getting these emails once. So, great idea to create a combined email group for PHRF racing. I support it. Personally, I also would like the extended racing, early start or not. I can’t speak to everyone’s insurance. Mine covers me day or night. If I go cruising for a week, in my mind, that’s what the throw outs are for. Finally, I don’t appreciate getting club emails with foul language.

Tony,

I totally agree with Lou. Major decisions are being made without consulting the Fleet. For example I just received an e-mail notifying me that I have been subscribed to the “NBC PHRF Racing Group”. WTF? I’m a member of the Cruising Fleet, I’m a member of the Open Fleet, and now I have to join a PHRF Racing Group too? This is getting ridiculous.

If we don’t have to pay Cruising Fleet dues this year, I don’t think we should have to renew our 2019 PHRF ratings if there have been no changes. However, I would like to continue supporting HRYRA.

Finally, there should be no Wednesday Night racing after Labor Day unless we can start earlier.

Hi Tony,

I was assuming that racing only Wed. nights at the club did not require a PHRF certificate. I have no intention of doing any racing this year, except for the Wed.night series. Do I need a certificate for just that? Also, the extension of the Wed. night series beyond the end of August might be illegal for 2 reasons:

  1. Insurance: calls for racing substantially after dark

  2. no representation (from me, at least) of changing the season from what had been a long tradition of ending racing the end of August.  Where did this change come from, who inspired it,

    how was it voted on?

I plan to go cruising the beginning of September, which would knock me out of the standings (if I happened to place, that is). I have always cruised at that time. That’s why I have a cruising boat!

For me, I even debated launching this season, much less race. I now feel o.k. with a crew of 4 or less, if I minimize time in the launch, and everyone wears masks, etc.

Don’t you think that some of these ‘rules’ will limit the number of folks who might otherwise want to race? There seems to be a dwindling of both spin and non-spin boats on the line.

Thanks,

Lou

Hi Lou,

I don't see that Merry Chase has a  https://phrf.hryra.org/index.php?q=phrf/ratings valid 2020 HRYRA PHRF -- a requirement to participate in the NBC races (see NoR/SI) and in our Wednesday Night Series (and other Cruising Fleet Series).

Under our 2020 Series Scoring rules, we recognize race results only if the lack of PHRF is cured within 7 days of the race -- that time limit has lapsed for last Wednesday.  But, since we didn't notify you last week, when I sent results, you have until the start of next Wednesday's race (July 15) to remedy the situation.  After that you'll be scored DNC in the series for any prior races.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Unfortunately, the way this email group has been recently modified to work, there is no longer the ability to reply to the sender ONLY. It is now all or nothing.

I understood the reasons for the change but I wonder if the remedy is worse than the problem that prompted it.

Thanks,

Lou

Hi Lou,
I don't see that Merry Chase has a valid 2020 HRYRA PHRF https://phrf.hryra.org/index.php?q=phrf/ratings -- a requirement to participate in the NBC races (see NoR/SI) and in our Wednesday Night Series (and other Cruising Fleet Series).

Thanks -- Tony Martin, Cruising Fleet Scoring

For me, I even debated launching this season, much less race. I now feel
o.k. with a crew of 4 or less, if I minimize time in the launch, and
everyone wears masks, etc.
Don’t you think that some of these ‘rules’ will limit the number of folks

spin and non-spin boats on the line.

Thanks,
