Don Koster has asked where to haul his boat alone the Tenn-Tom. Demopolis is the place! He does not say where the boat IS in Florida...nor how fast it runs...but for most trawlers travelling UPstream at 7-8 mph...Demopolis is the first REAL place to stop. It takes us 4 days to reach Demopolis from Mobile Bay having to anchor out twice and a stop at Bobby's Fish Camp midway. Demopolis is a fine place to stop, they have fenced in storage on land and do good work...also good clean fuel since they supply all the barges. We had no trouble reaching Aberdene in a normal day's travel, and Aberdene is upstream from Columbus, close to eachother actually, both interesting towns to visit, but Aberdene's marina, though nice, is small. Any of the above will satisfy your insurance...and you won't get barnacles in the freshwater!
Check with Fred at Demopolis before making plans because if it rains alot in the midwest...which it surely is doing now...you won't be able to GO upstream from Mobile! Too much current and too much trash...trees, small houses, lots of 'fltsom and jetsom'.
