University of the District of Columbia June 3, 2013 UDC Welcomes Dr. Neelesh Kumar of India for Five-Month Research Study The Office of International Programs and Exchange (OIPE) is pleased to announce the arrival of Professor Neelesh Kumar, who is a Senior Scientist from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in India. He is the distinguished guest of UDC's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and Dean Devdas Shetty. Dr. Kumar has been awarded the prestigious "Raman Fellowship" by the Indian government to conduct academic interaction and research while visiting SEAS. During his stay at UDC, he will interact with faculty on the newly proposed program on Biomedical Engineering and conduct research on sensor integration in rehabilitation engineering. The scope of work of his particular project, "Sensor Integration and Biomechanical Assessment of Human performance for Rehabilitation Devices including Wearable Mobility Supports," will include: * Interaction with faculty on Biomedical engineering curriculum and bio- instrumentation laboratories in SEAS. * Design aspects and investigation of sensing parameters for wearable mobility assistive devices. * Biomechanics analysis of human gait for ambulatory suspension system, and investigation for different gait environments. * Design parameters for wearable mobility assistive devices and identification of optimum control parameters for controlling the wearable mobility assistive device. * Multi-channel biosensor interface and detection for prosthetics and hybrid approach using bio-signals.
