All artists need to read this

My Tacoma friends and neighbors...many of us young or not so young struggling and less fortunate artists will I hope maybe take a few minutes to maybe read through this great or not so great idea...

What if the city opened a few doors for us....literally!  Open a few surplus buildings to...the arts! With a few exceptions the average artist struggles to pay studio rents and just maybe barely get buy in our "Art Friendly" Tacoma.

I propose the following:

One Thursday a month, in a public space like Union Station, the old city hall lobby or ???? we artists be allowed to bring 1-2 pieces of art from 6-8 pm...no extra gear. Maybe just an easel or small table, and be there to meet the public..no sales on site, but just show your stuff.

Isn't the lobby of Union Station open anyways on the 3rd Thursday? This would be a neat little package with TAM and
MOG close by?  Maybe a few local pacific ave businesses would chip in also?? Maybe even a few buskers or entertainers?

Tacoma needs a lift (sort like pike place) and could do much better with really getting artists involved....a weekend market place would really be sweet..

Since the closing of Rampart (I was a member for 2 years)...we have been lacking...seriously! Steve Craig did a real good thing at the ramp...the few galleries, and pay by the month venues I don't think have come close to filling the void!

Lets see if our new mayor might be willing to think outside the box, for us artists...oh and the side businesses that benefit from us like coffee shops, cafe's, restraunts etc.. Lets really get Tacoma on the Art map and quit "checking the block"

email me back, love to hear ALL opinions!

Hello all,

I am writing on behalf of the Jeff Call, Owner of the new Stonegate
restaurant located on 5421 S Tacoma Way.  Jeff would like to open the
walls of his restaurant up for use by local artists to display their
art.  Of course he and I are new to this and will need some guidance
from the Art community but from what I can tell there are quite a few of
you out there willing to pitch in.

There are three venues with vast expanses of wall space.  Probably more
than many galleries.

As a point of interest the interior of the Stonegate is mostly original
Art.  To further support the art in our community Jeff is offering space
for local artists to work on their art in full public display.  Of
course in all cases he is going to have final approval of any art and
art production within his facility which I am certain most would agree
is reasonable.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions as I
will be working with Jeff to get the ball rolling.

Finally, to continue supporting local artists and business, Jeff is
creating a "Local Cellar" in his lounge to feature locally crafted beers
and wines for sale.  If you know of any wineries or brewery's in the 253
area code please send them my way as well.  We have 1 beer to date but
need a lot more beers and wines especially.

Our goal is to let everyone know we appreciate the art community and
that art is everywhere not just downtown.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Take care....
