Image stabilized binoculars

Looks like the body of my e-mail failed to send.  Here it is again.

Christmas is coming.  Wife says she will buy me a new pair of binocs.  Been looking at the large number of image stabilized binoculars now available at relatively reasonable prices.  For instance, the Canon
10 x 30 IS binocs can be had online for just a little over $300.  Any
recommendations?

Weight doesn't matter much, because they mostly sit on the bridge.  Waterproof would be nice.  Rugged is important.

Does anyone have a good source for oil absorbing pads safe for engine room
use?

I have always kept a couple of grey (sometimes white) pads under my engines
and tranny's to soak up the occasional drop or two, but my marina no longer
stocks them.

I was hoping to buy a case to keep on board.

I prefer the white pads because I can spot a leak quicker with the white.

What does everyone use that you have found to be effective?  Feel free to
respond via email if there is a concern about mentioning the name of a
commercial product in the forum.

Thanks,

Ryan

Best prices I have found were at www.texrag.com

200 light weight pads for $39 or 100 medium weight pads for $30.

I need to phrase this delicately.

If you have drips that are low volume and minimal scatter, panty liners are
great. They're usually cheap, unless they come with a high maintenance boat
ornament. They even have a sticky side to hold them in place.

The admiral would probably be most unimpressed if I started pasting all of
her panty liners in the engine room.

I have a 45 year old Detroit Diesel, so trust me when I tell you I go through
these things in bulk (I lose about half a quart of oil a day, I know that
sounds like a lot but then again the engine holds 8 gallons of oil).

In any event, go to a commercial boat yard or lubricant supply house and buy
a bale of the good 3M oil absorbant pads. I get the ones that are about 20
inches square. Here's a link:

I get my at my local commercial shipyard for about $50 per bale of 100. The
only problem is finding a place to stow them, they are pretty bulky.

'Lo All,

Does anyone have a good source for oil absorbing pads safe for engine room
use?

For our type of requirement/use, be sure to get oil-only absorbent
pads. Many will also absorb water, which then negates the usefulness
of the pad.

A quick look on the internet came up with hundreds of sources, but
the following seems to be the best:

http://tinyurl.com/yc5jrc8

which is:

http://www.jmesales.com/item/131100/Specialty-Oil-Sorbents-Non-Linting-Oil-Only-Sorbent-Pads.aspx

No connection.

I used to have a local source, but unfortunately, he passed away. the
prices at jmesales.com are about the same as my good buddy had.

Take care and be safe.
