Yes to the anti-siphon "vented loop", if we can call that a valve. They
make them out of plastic or bronze and they are installed in-line at the
top of the loop to break the siphon effect when the water pressure
decreases. We had one in the sailboat, but also used a back-flow check
valve in-line just prior to the exit thru-hull.
This is how the valves you buy at Home Depot for your house work. I'm
concerned about them for marine use; however, due to possible failures
caused by trash and corrosion. Who has a lot of experience with these on a
boat, that you would like to share?
Another method is to Tee in a vent to the top of the riser loop. You then
run that high enough so that the head in that water column prevents it from
spilling out the vent. That system would do the same thing, and be
completely passive. It would also give you an indication when the line was
getting clogged up, as you would be spilling water out the vent.

I had a overboard manifold installed high in the engine room, well above
the water line, which appears to be a 3" PVC pipe capped off at both ends
into which are epoxied 5 small T's. 3 are for AC units and 2 are for bilge
pumps.
One 2" rubber hose connects the exit of the manifold to the stern of the boat.
Benefits: only one hole out the hull, no need for check valves or siphon
breaks, no drip stripes down the hull, complete silence, no noise of water
running and splashing. This is what I think is a professionally engineered
installation.
