About 10 years ago, Cruising World magazine rated the Top Ten cruising
destinations in the world. North Channel of Lake Huron made the list. I
don't recall any other Great Loop areas making the list. Others included the
Greek islands, the British Virgins, Fiji, etc.
My recommendation for 6 weeks would be to trailer to the southern end of
Georgian Bay and cruise north in the 30,000 island inland route and go all
the way to the Benjamin Island group in the North Channel. Two weeks would
be enough to get there and two weeks to double back and catch what you
missed the first time. I've gone on 1 week trips on most of this area with
our 26' trailerable boat. Outstanding scenery, secluded anchorages,
interesting communities, extremely friendly people, crystal clear water.
There is an excellent cruising guide available to the North Channel and
Georgian Bay.
