I have had several ICOM 802 units with the mike cords thatto just fall apart.  It must be the UV affect on the vynal coating.I have resolved each it each time by ordering a replacement cordfrom "cablescience.com" and replacing the cable on the mic. You can not get a replacement mike / cable assm from ICOM for these units.I used PN EC244-5 and ECS284-5 as replacement cables.there Phone number is 1-800-398-VOLT fro CABLEscience.INC. Regards, Richard BlakePS you will be required to solder 4 wires !!!!!

"... You cannot get a replacement mike / cable assm from ICOM for these

Well, that is not true.  The replacement cable part number from ICOM is:
cable $44.85, pn://8900011080  (If you wish to do it yourself).  But as I
mentioned in a prior Email: ICOM-America is servicing these mics at no
charge if you call customer support and get an RMA number from them.  I
received my replacement mic just last week.

Can you tell me with whom you spoke?  I just called customer support and
they told me they do not issue RMAs for this.  He said to send it in to
Bellvue with a note about the problem and they would "probably" replace
it.  It was all very loose, though, and with a 7-10 day turnaround plus
shipping both ways, I am looking at being without the radio for 2-3
weeks with no guarantee that they will replace the cord at no charge.
