I'm currently working on a project and I need to pick your brain. Off the top of your head (without referring to any guides) name the top 10-20 birding spots in CT (please include town as well). These locations must be accessible to the public.
Please email your responses to snaketat@cox.net
Thanks! And I look forward to seeing your responses.

Dear Brian,
Many years ago (early 1990s?) I put together a leaflet for the C.O.A. titled
"The Ten Best Birding Sites in CT". It included the best seasons for each site,
a brief description, and directions. I remember I tried to include at least one
area from each geographic part of the state. I don't believe this is available
on the COA website, but perhaps it should be.
Here's that list (in alphabetical order):
- Bluff Point Coastal Reserve, Groton
- Boston Hollow/Yale Forest, Ashford
- East Rock Park, New Haven/Hamden
- Greenwich Audubon/Fairchild Garden, Greenwich
- Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison
- Lighthouse Point Park, New Haven
- Milford Point/Nell's Island, Milford
- River Road, Kent
- Station 43, South Windsor
- White Memorial Foundation, Litchfield
This list holds true even today, though many more places can be added.
Best,
Frank Mantlik

How about our little Connecticut Audubon Society Birdcraft Museum and
Sanctuary? (314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield) During migration we are a tiny
"Central Park" surrounded by asphalt and located between I-95 and Metro
North. Birdcraft attracts shoreline migrating warblers and others in great
numbers to our tiny pond and six acre wild space. When you are done birding
you can visit the little museum which is soon to be renovated. The quarter
mile long trail is accessible to people using wheelchairs and the town
center with many fine restaurants is right around the corner.
