Awards Event Update

Hi everyone,

Here’s an update on the awards event.  We have booked Rayburn B-369 for Tuesday, September 27th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

As a reminder, holding our meeting during the day of the 27th got the most positive response in my informal poll.

Washington partners and I are finalizing the letters that will go out to awardees today. They may go out today — if not, first thing Monday.

Announcement to members: I’m inclined to send an announcement about the change in time/date for our meeting and awards event TODAY, but hold off on announcing our award winners and our plan to recognize Rep. Hinojosa until early NEXT WEEK. I was thinking I’d do that announcement only after I confirm with Washington partners that the awardees have been notified.

A couple of follow-ups for the board:
Kristin, I can’t remember if you check whether ALA’s conference room is available on the 27th. Can you reserve that?
With everyone’s permission, I’d like to schedule it for 9-3 (9-9:30 breakfast/social time). That gives us a good chunk of time, which I think we’ll need, and if we break at 3 that gives us enough time to deal with last minute logistics at Rayburn. If you feel STRONGLY about starting later, then please let me know.
Sort of related to the above: our board meeting. Do we meet here in DC in person on Monday, August 26th? Or by phone that day or during the previous week? I’m open — we could, alternatively, meet over dinner on the 26th, if that is preferable. Let me know what your preferences are.

I should also add that as of right now, I don’t have confirmations from Johan about either the meeting or event on the 27th or from Rep. Hinojosa’ office about the evening of the 27th. But we are running out of time and IMO need to finalize now. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

Hi, Jeff,

This is great news! Thanks for your persistence — this has been quite the trial.

I support the idea of sending out the announcement about the time/date change today, and waiting to announce winners until next week.

I’m fine with starting the members’ meeting at 9 AM. Re the board meeting, any of the options would be fine with me, though I’d prefer face-to-face.

I echo what Deborah said…thanks for all your work on this, Jeff.

I think it’s more beneficial to meet face-to-face also, if possible, for the board meeting. I should be able to come in anytime on the 26th.

I agree with Michelle and Deborah. Late afternoon like 330 or four to start would be best for me but that is just my two cents for Monday's board meeting.
