Simrad AP

I have older Simrad Autopilot (2001) . I have had two RF300 units die mid trip. They mount on the ship's hyraulic steering ram and from there to the AP's  computer.  They are potted units with no repairable parts inside. Any idea why these die so often as they are not exposed to the elements and the unit is potted to boot. Ideas/advice.  I now carry and spare.  Russ
