Subject: [PUP] Quality of crafts in general -

I'm really glad my post got some interest. Quality of crafts - Cost of
components.....Bob A -You state that some yacht builders try out/test/and
plan for best most suitable equipment, and/or installations.
Thats very good news, perhaps I have been mistaken. Please name 2, so I
might talk to the builders, learn something, and maybe recommend their craft
to people I know who buy this this stuff........

Hannu: Maybe you have not looked at, nor talked to many Fleming owners. Once
fully commissioned, they are relatively bulletproof. Not perfection but
close. On both of my Flemings there have been extra pull cords to make
rewiring or additional wiring easy. Burr Yacht, the U.S east coast
distributor, has unbelievable knowledge of the inner workings of these boats
and can walk one through most an problem you may have. Not only are they
well thought out, construction and commissioning are well executed.

Hatteras strives for quality and follows through when equipment or their QC
fail. I watched them being built and allot of care goes into the
construction. 80% of their customers are previous Hatteras owners whose
expectations are very high. I won't bore everybody with details, but some of
the things that they do are unlikely to be done by any other builder. That's
not to say that they are the best builder, but going around the hull and
banging on the fiberglass with a steel rod to find voids in the gelcoat
(they mostly occur as hidden voids in compound angles like spray strakes)
and then rebuilding the area instead of using filler is somewhat
extraordinary.

I know that Flemings are a great boat and that the Burrs seek to improve
every successive boat so that the Fleming 55 you buy will have quality
improvements over the one delivered before yours. We also have commercial
builders who produce excellent small vessels such as pilot boats. Such
builders can and do produce yachts and you can get the same redundancy and
quality as long as you are willing to pay for it. The same goes for some PNW
fishing boat builders who can turn out fine, rugged yachts.

Dyer boats are quality boats - period.
